Who runs it
PictonFood is an independent website, edited by David Rowell (Website Owner / Editor). It isn't run by a tourism body or a booking platform, and nobody pays to be on it. You can reach the editor at contact@pictonfood.co.nz or through the contact form.
How the listings are researched
Every listing is built from a shared record of Picton venues that this site and its two sister sites read from. For opening hours the order of preference is the venue's current Google Business Profile, then a recent announcement from the business itself, then its own website, then its Facebook or Instagram, and only then other reputable local sources. Each venue page says which of those its hours came from and when they were last checked. Where no source is reliable, the page says "Hours may vary — check with the venue before visiting" rather than guessing. The full rules are in the editorial policy.
Right now 34 places are listed, 28 of them with hours on file; the most recent hours check was on 18 October 2026. Places known to have closed stay findable, clearly marked as closed, but drop out of every list.
What the site writes itself
The short description on each venue page, the "before you go" notes and the guides are written for this site, in plain words, from the facts on file — what a place serves, where it is, when it's open. They don't rate anything. If a fact isn't on file, it isn't written.
Pictures
A real photograph appears beside a venue's name only when it is a licensed photo of that venue — its own supplied photo, or an openly licensed picture of the building — and it is credited where it appears. The photographs of the harbour, streets and Sounds are openly licensed images from Wikimedia Commons, credited on each page and on the photo credits page. They show the town, never a particular business.
Walking times and "open now"
"Open now" is worked out in New Zealand time from the hours on file. Walking times are approximate: the straight-line distance from the Interislander passenger terminal to the venue's address, at an easy pace, with a little added for corners.
